Purple Belt

The purple belt also represents the sky in which growing things are driving towards. Mental and physical strength continue to stabilize and the techniques preformed, are without a doubt, great in skill.

Toi-Gye is the purple belt form. Toi-Gye was a great Confucian philosopher at the time of the Lee Dynasty. Toi-Gye specialized in Joo Ja Hak, or Confucianism, and developed many interesting theories. He founded the Do San Learning Institute where his young disciples were educated by him personaly until his death in 1570. His writings of Confucianism known as Toi Gye Hak are a subject of study all over the world still today.

Toi-Gye contains 37 movements. Of the 37 movements there are many changes between stances and attacks that accompany the switching and footwork. This form also introduces the W-block. This footwork can be difficult for someone that is not comfortable with their basic and more advanced stances.

The purple belt testing requires the student to preform Toi-Gye, three steps ( which are the same as two steps plus one more punch from the attacker ), free sparring, and a single break of two boards. The purple belt should have enough strength and skill in a technique to break two boards with a single strike. The technique used to break the board is chosen by the student, and can be a hand or foot technique.
