The yellow belt is the second belt of the Pure Energy Tae Kwon Do system. This belt can be seen as the sun which aids in the growth of a seed. This seed is the seed of knowledge which is planted in each beginner during the instruction of basics. This belt is where the basics are beginning to be utilized and improved. This belt also introduces free sparring ( fighting without contact ) to the students. Free sparring gives the student a chance to execute techniques in a more intense scenario. Although most white belts actually begin sparring before they reach yellow belt, it is not something that is stressed as an important part of their class activities.

The yellow belt testing continues the use of one steps to demonstrate a person's improvement in their ability to block and counter an attack. The yellow belt testing also includes a demonstration of basic techniques by the student. The techniques that a student is asked to preform are basic and simple. This will give the instructors an idea of how comfortable a student is while preforming techniques under the stress of supervision. This is not used to terrify the student, but to build the student's confidence in techniques.
